Sclerotherapy

Spider veins affect a large percentage of both men and women. Sclerotherapy consists of tiny injections into these veins using a substance that causes scarring and collapse of these blood vessels. It works best in vessels that are 1 – 2 mm in size. Larger, varicose vessels are best addressed by a vascular surgeon. Smaller vessels can sometimes be effectively targeted by IPL treatments. Once the vessels are injected, gauze and tape are used to apply compression. A tight compression garment is recommended over the treated area to keep them collapsed. Excessive aerobic activity is to be avoided for two weeks after treatment to avoid reopening the treated veins. Vein treatment may require more than one session, typically spaced 6 weeks apart.
